On March 9, 1959 the Barbie doll made her debut into the world and needless to say, this invariably redefined our little girls’ playtime. Barbie’s huge popularity has hit the fifty years mark, so that means that you can find 3 generations in a family that all adore Barbie. In as much as there has been a decline in the sales of Barbie dolls, she is still the most popular doll in the western world.

The women who played with Barbie in the childhood are the most common collectors of vintage Barbie dolls, and also go out looking for a Barbie for their girls too. They have a lot of fond memories of playing with their barbies and want their daughters to have the same too.

With all the good things said about having a Barbie doll, there main bone of contention is that Barbie is an unrealistic role model for young girls. For example, there are many girls out there who aspire to have barbies body figure, and have ended up having even eating disorders and low self esteem.

Compared to the original barbie, the Barbie doll made today has a realistic body shape that is similar to that of a real life woman. And they are also given careers that young girls can aspire to having. Some of the careers that she had had include being a pilot, a stewardess, a doctor and so on. With all the changes that the Barbie dolls have undergone over the past years, the one constant is the happiness that each Barbie has brought to little girls the world over.
